Reducing waste in US healthcare spending.
There is a general consensus in the health community on the different types and levels of waste. However, but reducing it remains difficult. Economic incentive prioritizes volume of care over value, which can incentivize waste. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) created a list of recommendations to reduce waste, including the improvement of provider capacity to collect and use digital health data to improve care. Improved partnerships and greater coordination between providers and the rest of the health community can improve care transitions.
